A simple scud/shrimp pattern for Baltic sea trout. A variation of the Brown Twinkle Nymph by the same originator. The original had no rib, but was tied with Kevlar thread for strength, and also includes a layer of lead substitute wire on the hook. The weight can be added if you want the fly to sink faster.

Cold saltwater fly
Easy
- Tie in the flash at the hook bend, short to the rear, long to the front
- Bend back the long part and tie down. This will become the back of the fly.
- Tie in rib.
- Take the thread forward to behind the hook eye.
- Tie in the chenille.
- Cover the chenille with thread to the hook bend and back to behind the eye.
- Wrap the chenille in touching turns to behind the hook eye.
- Tie down and trim. Leave a little space for a head.
- Tie in the hackle, butt first, shiny side forward.
- Wrap the hackle in 4-5 turns to the hook bend.
- Fold the long flash straws forward to catch the hackle and form a back.
- Tie down the flash and trim.
- Wrap the rib in 4-5 turns to secure the hackle.
- Tie down and trim butt.
- Form a small head, whip finish and cut thread.
- Brush the hackle fibers downward using a Velcro brush.
- Trim stray hackle fibers.
