I have seen so many fly fishers, when they have to do a very gentle presentation that they end up casting “softer” because the fly has to land very gentle. In the end the fly lands short or the gentle breeze blows the fly away from where it is suppose to land.
In stead of casting “softer” for a gentle presentation. If you have the RIGHT length/amount of line where the fly is suppose to land, aim for a spot 2 meters further away and cast the normal “power” cast. The fly will shoot out and stop in the air, above the spot where it is suppose to land, but then it will hover and land softly in the place where you want it and gentle drift down for a gentle presentation
