Pacific Salmon Flies

Brief and to-the-point are the words that come to mind after I have read this book. No nonsense would also be a good choice of words.
The title says it quite precisely: flies for pacific salmon. Pinks, kings, coho, chum and sockeye, fish that run in the millions up the rivers of the northwest coast of the north American continent, and which live a short life in the rivers. By some anglers regarded as treasured quarries, but by others as a menace, ruining the trout, rainbow and steelhead fishing, flapping around after having spawned, dying an undignified and smelly death.

I personally can't see any reason not to consider this phenomenal spectacle as a blessing, an angler's wet dream, fishing worth traveling for, and Cecilia Kleinkauf's book together with my own trips to the area just confirm this. Pacifica salmon a well worth fishing for.

The book is first and foremost a handful of new and old patterns tied specifically designed and tied for Pacific salmon, but at the same time a beautiful little book with excellent pictures and a very appetizing presentation of its content. It displays some breathtaking photos by renown photographer Michael DeYoung.

Neither the flies nor the book itself is big art as such, but I say that in a very positive sense. The flies are covered in detail with recipes and instructions that are easily followed. The book has a few general tips on tying, but does not go totally berserk as a tying book, but focuses on its main subject: the salmon flies. It presents the leeches, the eggs and the Popsicles - even the Clouser - but also a number of lesser known flies, which will do very well in the flyboxes of the person targeting the salmon of Canada and Alaska.

And with a cover price of 20 US$ it's even great value for the money and easily accessible for anyone venturing to these parts of the world - or just interested in the subject.
